Again, in an international museum musée du quai Branly - Jacques Chirac, where we went to see the exhibition of "Black Indians" of New Orleans, I was reminded of the exchange program that involved these three notable continents: Africa, Europe, and America.
-----
Summarily, the Black Indians exhibition portrays the history of Black Americans and how they honour and pay tribute to the native Americans who helped them out during the slave era in Louisiana.
They organize a carnival-like festival known as the Mardi Gras, where they wear expensive hand-made costumes designed with pearls, feathers, and beads with some African influences on them. The elaborate costumes are worn by prominent members of different tribes and have significant meanings inscribed.
It was a beautiful exhibition and worth every time spent.
-----
In an exchange service, two goods of presumed equal value are exchanged between 2 or more parties.
In the case of Africa, we received many items that were of little or no value to our colonizers in exchange for the highest capital.
I understand how we desire things we don't have, especially when good marketing has been done on those things but to trade goods like salt, textiles, sugar, radio, and mirrors for humans is something that will remain bewildering today because we now know their values.
Right in that museum, I started thinking of all the things we humans pursue in exchange for our skills, value, time, morals, culture, beliefs conscience, etc.
What you're running after, making sacrifices for, betraying your loved ones, selling your conscience for, selling yourself for...
Will it all be worth it tomorrow?
We can blame the colonizers because they had arms on the other hand but what about now?
What's stopping you from voting for the best candidate in an election? (Sorry, I'll fuse it in 😌)
We will always work or make sacrifices for the things we desire but let's be careful not to give up something major for minor; let it be something we'll always be proud of in the future.
