Fentanyl Poisoning: Death of Thousands Reported.

I came across a very sad video on TikTok a few months ago about a certain poisoning in illicit drugs. It was new to me but recently, I began to see more and more videos about this substance and I did a quick research to learn and share.
....

It is news that some drug dealers are now mixing Fentanyl with other drugs like cocaine, heroin, meth, etc to make it cheaper in cost and more profitable.

Unknown to illicit consumers, Fentanyl is highly addictive and much more dangerous than the usual illicit drugs.

First, what is Fentanyl that has killed a lot of people and is the most common drug present in drug overdose deaths in the US?

Fentanyl, according to online resources, is a synthetic opioid that is 50 times stronger than heroin and 100 times stronger than morphine.

There are two types of Fentanyl; Pharmaceutical and Illicitly Manufactured Fentanyl.

Just as you guessed, Pharmaceutical Fentanyl is prescribed by doctors for patients who have severe pain and high resistance to other pain-relieving drugs. It is measured and prescribed according to the patient's body tolerance.

However, the second one is illegally obtained and taken most times without caution. The powder is usually sniffed, injected in nose sprays, and made as eye drops or pills. Even if an addict is careful, they're unaware of the amount of Fentanyl present in the drug, which can lead to immediate death if it's not the right amount taken.

Effects of Fentanyl include the following:

1. Nausea
2. Sedation
3. Unconsciousness
4. Confusion
5. Drowsiness
6. Problem with breathing etc.
7. Itching
8. Hallucinations
9. Low blood pressure

Though it is said to be neutralized by Naloxone, it all depends on the amount taken and the amount of Naloxone required.

Some of the street names are:
- Apache
- Dance fever
- Good fellas
- Jackpot
- Murder 8
- Tango & Cash

Consumers are highly advised and warned of the risks of taking illicit drugs as it's more dangerous now and can lead to sudden death.
